463781417For some people, even the thought of going to the dentist is frightening. Some may even fail to see the dentist and therefore terribly neglect their oral health, and consequently their overall health may suffer, too. Others can manage to get themselves to the dentist, but they’re certainly not happy to be there! If either of these descriptions remind you of someone you know, then you should also know that there is a solution. Sedation dentistry will dissolve your fears so you can have the dental treatment you need. Dr. Deborah Romack and Dr. Garrett Mulkey at Cosmetic & Family Dentistry in Weatherford, TX, offer FREE nitrous oxide for patients who need a little assistance relaxing in the dentist’s chair.

Sedation dentistry is ideal for people who have a genuine fear of the dentist and experience anxiety as a result. However, sedation dentistry may also be appropriate for other people, too, including those who:

  • Have low pain tolerance
  • Cannot easily sit in a dentist’s chair, perhaps because of arthritis or other ailments
  • Have a sensitive gag reflex
  • Have very sensitive teeth
  • Need a lot of dental work completed

Sedation Dentistry with Nitrous Oxide

The mildest form of sedation dentistry is nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. You breathe nitrous oxide through a mask that is placed over your nose during your dental procedure. The gas is delivered along with oxygen, so Dr. Romack or Dr. Mulkey and their team can carefully regulate the amount of nitrous oxide you receive. As you inhale, you will feel your body relax and your fears will dissipate. Once the mask is removed and you breathe normally, the effects of the nitrous oxide wear off quickly. In fact, you’ll be able to carry on with the rest of your day as usual.
